How do we decide when treated wastewater or recovered nutrients stop being “waste” and start being “products”? As Europe transitions toward a circular economy, the water sector is at the forefront of a major shift. We are no longer just treating “sewage”; we are recovering valuable resources. However, one of the biggest hurdles to scaling these circular solutions is a regulatory and technical concept known as End-of-Waste (EoW).

To help demystify this topic, the BOOST-IN project is hosting a dedicated webinar on April 20th, 2026, titled: Understanding End-of-Waste in the water sector – insights from the BOOST-IN project.” To register foe the webinar, please click here.

Why does End-of-Waste matter?

End-of-Waste defines the precise moment a material ceases to be classified as waste and can be safely placed on the market as a product. For water professionals, this is the “missing link” that allows innovative products derived from wastewater streams—such as recovered minerals or cellulose, to be sold and used in the wider economy.

What to expect from the webinar

Moderated by Stevo Lavrnić (UNIBO), this session is specifically designed for those with limited or no prior knowledge of EoW. Whether you are a policymaker, researcher, or water utility practitioner, this hour-long session will provide a clear roadmap for navigating these regulations.
