On 1 June 2026, the BOOST-IN project successfully organised the online webinar “Investing in Nature through Circular Water Solutions”, officially recognised as a Partner Event of EU Green Week 2026.

The event brought together innovators, researchers, policymakers and water-sector stakeholders from across Europe to explore how circular water solutions can contribute to environmental protection, resource efficiency, climate resilience and the transition towards a more sustainable and circular economy.

The webinar was moderated by Angela Magno (BIOAZUL) and opened by Rafael Casielles (BIOAZUL), BOOST-IN Project Coordinator, who introduced the project and highlighted its mission to accelerate the uptake of Water Circular Economy Solutions (WACES) by addressing technological, market, governance and societal barriers that often hinder their deployment.

The first technical session featured Dorina Bogdani (AGENSO), who presented key findings from the BOOST-IN innovation database. Drawing on the analysis of hundreds of solutions identified through the project’s scouting activities and open call, the presentation highlighted a vibrant innovation landscape across Europe, with a strong concentration of technologies focused on advanced water treatment and resource recovery. At the same time, the analysis revealed persistent challenges related to financing, regulatory complexity, cross-sector collaboration and large-scale implementation, underlining the need for stronger support mechanisms to help innovative solutions reach the market.

A central part of the webinar was dedicated to a series of innovation pitches showcasing practical solutions already contributing to the circular water economy across Europe.

  • Zulema Borjas, Innovation Project Manager at Sorigué (Spain), presented a nature-based wastewater treatment solution enabling safe agricultural water reuse with low environmental impact.
  • Pelayo Fernández, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of BIHOX (Spain), showcased the company’s photocatalytic SUPERWATER technology, designed to improve irrigation efficiency while reducing water and fertiliser consumption.
  • Windi Muziasari, Founder and CEO of Resistomap (Finland), introduced an AI-powered antimicrobial resistance monitoring platform that transforms genetic data into actionable insights for water biosecurity and public health protection.
  • Thanos N. Stasinopoulos, Assistant Professor at the Izmir University of Economics (Türkiye), presented Aquapuncture, an innovative concept that combines rainwater harvesting and passive cooling to create urban oases and mitigate heat island effects.
  • Solvita Kostjukova, Co-Founder and CTO of P-Agro Minerals (Latvia), showcased a circular phosphorus recovery solution that converts nutrients from wastewater into reusable resources for agriculture.
  • Jan van den Broek, Director Business Innovation at NSI BYOSIS (Netherlands), presented an advanced ammonia stripping technology capable of recovering fertilisers from wastewater while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Dr. Katrin Schuhen, Founder and CEO of Wasser 3.0 (Germany), introduced an innovative filter-free technology for detecting, removing and reusing microplastics from water systems.
  • Hasse Storebakken, CEO and Founder of Aqua Alarm (Norway), presented an AI-powered solution for water quality monitoring and smarter management of drinking water systems.

Following the innovation pitches, Andrea Rubini (Water Europe) presented the Water Europe Marketplace and the matchmaking functionalities developed within BOOST-IN to facilitate connections between innovators, investors, end-users and other stakeholders, supporting the uptake and replication of promising solutions across Europe.

The webinar concluded with a presentation by Christian Remy (KWB) on the role of End-of-Waste criteria and regulatory frameworks in enabling circular water solutions. His presentation highlighted how the lack of harmonised European End-of-Waste criteria for many water-related products remains a significant barrier to market uptake and circularity, while also presenting ongoing BOOST-IN efforts to foster dialogue, knowledge exchange and future harmonisation in this area.

We would like to sincerely thank all speakers, innovators and participants who joined the webinar and contributed to making this EU Green Week Partner Event a success.

The recording of the webinar is now available on the BOOST-IN YouTube channel, allowing anyone who could not attend the live session to explore the presentations, insights and innovative solutions showcased during the event.
