The BOOST-IN project has launched its first policy brief, confronting the “Yuck Effect”-the common public aversion to reusing treated wastewater, which poses a significant barrier to a water-smart economy. The brief highlights that public perception, lack of trust, and weak societal readiness are delaying crucial EU water initiatives.
Drawing on insights from a recent workshop in Málaga, the policy brief outlines strategies for mindset shifts, co-creation, and inclusive governance. By addressing these challenges, BOOST-IN aims to directly contribute to the effective implementation of the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and support the EU’s forthcoming Water Resilience Strategy.
We cannot allow perception to block vital innovation in water solutions. This brief offers initial steps to turn hesitation into support. Discover the full policy brief here.
