On 2 July 2026, BOOST-IN held its second IMAG Workshop, organised by Isle, bringing together key stakeholders from across the European water sector to explore how innovative water treatment solutions can move from promising pilots to real-world deployment.
The workshop focused on water treatment for reuse, supporting the BOOST-IN wider ambition to accelerate the transition towards a more resource-efficient and circular water sector. Through direct exchange between technology developers and IMAG members, the session examined market readiness, potential application pathways, and the main barriers that can slow adoption.
A central theme was how advanced treatment solutions can be scaled successfully, with particular attention to the operational, regulatory, and financial conditions needed to progress beyond pilot stage. Two solutions were presented and discussed with the group:
- MEMB-RANER, presented by Aqualia, an advanced Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor (AnMBR) that combines biological degradation with membrane filtration. The innovation supports energy-neutral or energy-positive operation through biogas generation while producing high-quality effluent suitable for agricultural reuse.
- Wasser 3.0 PE-X®, presented by Wasser 3.0 gGmbH, a modular, filter-free technology designed to remove more than 95% of microplastics from wastewater. Its “clump and skim” process enables captured microplastics to be transformed into secondary raw materials, contributing to circular economy objectives.
By creating a focused validation environment, the IMAG 2 Workshop helped technology providers refine their value propositions and better understand the conditions needed for successful deployment. The outcomes will contribute to BOOST-IN’s ongoing work to support innovation, collaboration, and circularity in the water sector.
